Using regular kitchen materials and ingredients, you and the entire family can create a wide range of colorful playdough. With home ingredients, you know that these playdoughs are really safe for the kids. These are the ingredients you need for this:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • ½ cup of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of cream of tartar
  • food coloring
  • saucepan
  • spatula
  • resealable plastic bags

These are the steps to making your own playdough:

  1. Combine the water, cream of tartar, salt, flour in a saucepan.
  2. Heat or cook under medium heat until you achieve a dough-y texture. Remember to keep on stirring.
  3. Remove from heat and let the dough cool a bit before you knead. Add a bit of flour if the mixture is still too sticky.
  4. Once you achieved the consistency that you want or until the dough doesn’t stick, divide them into the number of colors that you want to create.
  5. Place dough into resealable bags and add 2-3 drops of food coloring into each bag. Mix until the entire dough is colored.

You can also add scents to your playdough. We usually add lavender for a more calming and relaxing effect. You and the kids can play with the playdough for hours! Store these in reusable airtight containers and it will last for 3 to 6 months, depending on usage and storage.
