Traditional Sliced Honey Glazed Ham Ready for the Holidays

Make this year’s holiday party different by having a progressive dinner event instead of the usual gathering.

What is a progressive dinner party?

A progressive dinner party is just that – a gathering wherein dinner is served in stages and at different people’s homes. That means you’ll be having the appetizer, the main course and the dessert at various venues, depending on the set-up agreed upon.

Holiday Progressive Dinner Party Planning

Compared to conventional holiday parties, logistics is even more amped up in progressive dinner parties. Why? Because there will be more than one host and all the guests will have to travel in order to wine and dine the night away.

A crucial step to progressive dinner party planning is taking into consideration the following:

  • The number of hosts

If you don’t have the luxury of time, it is best to keep the number of hosts to a minimum. Otherwise, you’ll probably be house-hopping more than you’d like during the night or day, depending on your holiday party’s schedule.

  • The number of guests

Having a reasonable number of people will avoid problems such as lack of parking space, lack of table slots and other difficulties you usually run into when you have too many people in a house party.

  • The sequence

Figuring out where to start first and where to end is very important because you don’t want to go zigzagging the whole neighborhood, town or city! Bring out the map and plot, plot, plot.

Once you have all of that figured out, you can dedicate more time to the more fun part of holiday progressive dinner parties – food and décor!

Food preparation will be a challenge for party hosts as they’ll be somewhere else when the party starts. Often times, you’ll be torn between skipping the party and choosing to prepare or tagging along and hosting a disaster. But hey, there’s always a middle ground and that is found in make-ahead dishes.

And when it comes to party supplies for décor and table setting, we’ve got a pretty good suggestion for your holiday progressive dinner party: mix and match solid colors and patterns for the perfect celebration!

Solids: We choose solid colors when we have a venue that already has a lot going on in terms of design. Choosing solids makes it easy to coordinate with any decor. We also like to mix and match them with chevron, polka dots or quatrefoil patterns.

Chevron: It’s a classic, yet trendy pattern. We just love the zigzags of chevron. And, you can find it in many different colors at Birthday Express. Your party decorations will be unforgettable with a chevron pattern!

Polka Dots: Timeless and fun, polka dots are a cheerful party choice. Kids and adults alike will love the dotted party decor!

Quatrefoil: This design conveys fancy. Choose quatrefoil when you want to add a classy vibe to your party.

In addition to solid colored plates, Birthday Express also has a variety of solid and patterned colored cups, napkins, tablecovers and utensils – pretty much any color you need to customize a party. Check out all solid color party supplies by visiting!
